What Causes Varicose Veins

The blood runs through veins and vessels from other organs of the body to the heart which pumps the heart and creates pressure. The blood vessels ensure effective blood flow in the body and avoid back flow of the blood. Many times due to illness, the valves become weak and do not work properly. This leads to abnormally thick, twisted and enlarged veins. These twisted and enlarged veins are called varicose veins. Varicose veins commonly refer to vein of the leg although these veins can be seen elsewhere in the body. One should be aware of the information what causes varicose vein.

What causes varicose vein? Various researches and theories give different causes for varicose veins. The common cause of varicose veins is damaged and weakened valves that are found in the network of blood vessels. When veins become varicose or twisted, the valves stop working properly. Many times the reason cannot be found for the valve to stop working. The back flow of the blood causes the vein to enlarge and twist.

What Causes Varicose Veins

Environmental factors such as prolonged standing is the most common factor, prolonged pressure on the veins causes twisted veins. People working as waiters, flight attendants, sales assistants and others doing other similar works undergo the problem of varicose veins. Heredity is one of cause of varicose vein. If the disease exists in any of the family member then it is likely that any member in the coming generation could have it. Many a times, diet is also a cause for varicose veins. Food rich in fat and sugar (not natural as taken from fruits) can be a reason for the twisted veins. If the food taken is with low fiber content then too it could lead to enlarged or twisted veins.

Certain causes aggravate the problem of varicose veins. These are pregnancy, obesity, chronic constipation, chronic cough or other reasons that cause strain leading to varicose veins. Pregnancy increases the blood volume and weight that causes pressure on the veins of the legs. If a person stand too long then there is a possibility of varicose veins as it strains the legs including the veins. Obesity is one of the causes for varicose veins as an obsess person has a lot of weight that continuously stress the legs. Chronic cough or any other type of stress strains the veins for prolonged time resulting in varicose veins. Surgery of the leg causes interrupted flow of the blood that again leads to the veins to be enlarged or twisted.

What Causes Varicose Veins

There are few causes of this disease; one is helpless about abnormality of vein from birth and growing age. Some individuals have abnormalities of the vein wall from birth that results in weakened valves and may lead to varicose veins. Age is another factor that responsible for varicose veins. With the passage of time, the elasticity of the veins decreases that cause the veins to stretch. This causes the blood to flow back and as said, it repeatedly causes vesicular veins. Many findings tell what causes of varicose veins. It is on us to carefully understand and find out the reason for it and take care.
